Q. What month is best surf costa rica?

Costa Rica has good waves almost year round, but the best surf season is in the Costa Rican summer from December-April when the sun is shining.

Q. What month is best surf costa rica?

The surf season varies a lot depending where you are in Costa Rica - the North Pacific is definitely best in the Jan-April summer months, but the south swell hits the country`s South Pacific in the rainy season (May-December). There is also a lot of natural variation from beach to beach depending on the angle of the swell and the conditions on the beach.

Q. What month is best surf costa rica?

If you want to avoid crowds in the water, surf Costa Rica in the off-season (May, September-November) - there are plenty of beaches with great waves to choose from that can be yours alone to surf.

Q. I am moving to costa rica and need some advice about jobs?
hello, i have received so many different opinions and advice! i am a qualified teacher but do not have an esl or tefl certificate. i recently visited costa rica and fell in love with the country and the culture and am moving there in december. some people say that anyone with a degree can walk into a school and ask for a job teaching english. others say i am waisting my time even going there and will not get a job unless i am married to a costa rican! some people say that teachers only make about 300 dollars a month(so cannot live), others say that i can live quite happily(necessities) but wont be able to save money. i am feeling quite despondent, is there anyone who can lift my hopes? thanks colette

The Tefl or Esl is recommeded but not necessary as the standard of education is not very high there, here is a website of someone who does live and teach there, hope it helps http://www.transitionsabroad.com/publications/magazine/0411/teaching_english_in_costa_rica.shtml

Q. What should i bring on my trip to costa rica this summer?
i want to be prepared. i am going with my college this july on a trip to laselva biology station in costa rica this summer for a biology class and field photography class. i know july is one of the rainiest months in costa rica so i am already in the market for a poncho. i also plan to buy binoculars, a better camera, and hiking shoes. any suggestions for anything else? what kind of camera/binoculars should i buy? (please keep in mind that im a college student and don't have thousands of dollars to throw around... i will be saving but i think the absolute max i can go on a camera is $6-800!) any and all suggestions are appreciated but the one that answers all the questions gets the points. :)

Screw a poncho, go to an REI and get a good , but thin since it will still be hot, rain jacket. A GOOD ONE!! Also get lots of bug spray, also the good stuff at REI, and well good, comfy, airy hiking shoes, not really boots, also found at REI. You could probably get everything there, or at least the names and brands and good help. Then leave and try and find the SAME stuff for cheaper. REI online has a better sale selection. Have fun!!! Q. I'd like to vacation in costa rica soon, but i need some answers from a local or ex-pat...?
i've decided recently to spend the summer in costa rica. if i lived frugally, rented a room under $300/month, and i have $2200 saved, how much more would i need to live comfortably for 3 months? and by comfortably, i mean tours, surfing (surfing lessons), excitement and entertainment...or would $2200 do it/cover it? do you find the area safe...welcoming? thanks-

It all depends on what your lifestyle is like. In recent years Costa Rica has become VERY expensive. Do you want to rent a car? Cars are about $60 per day plus a $1200-2000 deposit depending on the rental company. Beware of small time or no-name rental car companies. Stick with a major name company.Which part of Costa Rica are you thinking of staying in? The coastal areas are of course more expensive than other areas. Tour prices tend to start at around $60 on up depending on the activity. If you are going to be paying cash for anything ask for a discount. Most places will usually give you a 10% discount if you are paying cash and ask for it. If you want to do any sportfishing forget it a half day of fishing costs $800 or more. I've lived here for most of my life and the only real issues we have here is theft. You cannot leave anything unatended anywhere not even in the hotels. As far as finding cheap places to rent , as with any place in the world the cheaper the rent the worse the neighbor hood. (there are rare exceptions to that) I live in a decent neighborhood and the rents around here are about $600 a month. Food and entertainment prices will vary depending on the location and your personal taste and style. The average Tico lunch (I like a dish called a Casado) will cost $3-5 dollars. The Casado it comes with a piece of fish or chicken (your choice) some rice, some beans, a couple strips of fried plantain, and sometimes a boiled egg. It is a good amount of food and pretty tasty too. But if you only like to eat McDonalds and fast food then it about $8-12 dollars for a combo meal which includes a whopper, drink and fries. Like I said it all depends on you and your personal tastes. Costa Rica is a very welcoming country the people are friendly and helpful as a whole. Staying in San Jose area is a good idea if you plan to spend most of your time in and around the area. If you plan to travel the bus is a good option but it takes time due to the many stops a bus makes. Even the express bus from San Jose to Jaco takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours. And there are NO bathrooms on the bus so use the bathroom before you leave. As for the $30 dollar hotel room- depending on which season you come down you may or may not find one avalible. The cheapest rooms you can find will be Hostel rooms. (hostel rooms are usually shared with people you may or may not know depending on if you bring friends with you). It is always best to make a reservation especially in the Jaco, Playas Del Coco, Hermosa, Tamarindo areas as these are the most popular areas with the most things to do they are more expensive. Also the local currency is the Colone. While most places will accept Dollars if you need to exchange Dollars to Colone the banks and other places usually charge a slight fee. The current exchange rate is around 500 colone to the dollar. While it is minimal you should be aware of it when factoring your budget.

Q. How can i save / make money on my travels???
i am going to central and south america - guatemala, mexico, cuba, costa rica, dominican republic, argentina and brazil. i am trying to learn as much spanish i can along the way. i've saved up some money but not as much as i hoped and i am going for 5/6 months in about a month. does anyone know ways i can save/make money while i am out there???

I would cut back my intinerary to say this time the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Save it for another time and go for Mexico through Costa Rica by bus, not expensive and good buses Then fly to the mainland of South America, Colombia or Venezuela. In Colombia you can take a boat down the Amazon from Letiicia, Colombia Work is not easy to come by and pays little

Q. How much spending money to bring to costa rica?
hello! i am traveling for the first time to costa rica feb and march. i am traveling alone, looking to get away from new york city life and , staying in puerto viejo and montezuma. my flight and places are already paid for. i am wondering how much money should i plan to have as petty spending cash when down there? (food, going out, busses) for the most part ill be chilling, and writing, surf board rental, and cooking at home (so groceries expenses) then i probably go mingle for dinner and drinks 2-3 times a week. but nothing too crazy, this is more of a mild chill get away for me. so for 2 months whats a decent amount of spending money to have saved up?

If you are going for two months, I would bring about $2000 spending money. I know some are going to disagree, but there may be things you want to do beside surfing, dinning out and having a few drinks. Two month is a long time to just chill on the beach. You may want to chill by going sports fishing for a day, do a few days of ziplining, take a full day of white water rafting and many other adventures that cost. The problem (a good problem) of CR is there is just a ton of things to do, so be prepared. The last thing you want is to be down there and run out of money.

Q. Writing letters, cute or obsessive?
my boyfriend of 5 months (i'm only 15 turning 16 and he's 17) left me for costa rica for 11 days this spring break. :[ during which is 420, and more importantly our 5 month. he's down in costa rica saving sea turtles and rebuilding farming land for the natives, lolol. but i miss him a lot, is that normal? and also, is it cute or obsessive if i write him letters and give the letters to him when he comes back along with his favorite candy? i wrote a letter for him the first day he was gone, on our 5 month and i'm planning to write another letter for him the day before he comes back. the first letter i wrote about how much i missed him and what went on, the second letter i wrote about how crazy it is that we're dating and how lucky i am, idk what to write for the third letter, but i don't want to continue writing if it's viewed as obsessive. i just miss him a lot. don't get me wrong, i'm still going out and having fun, i just miss my best friend, my boyfriend.

Cute I write letters too! :) ~Mattzzie
