If you are looking for higher-end brand names, Multi-Plaza in the business district, just off Avenida Balboa, is a good place to find a lot of big names clustered together; but the prices are not usually bargains. The Albrook Mall next to the Albrook Airport is less conveniently located but offers a better chance at a bargain, though you have to wade through a lot more items to find the really good deal. There are also high-end boutique stores all over the city, especially on Calle 50 and 53, and Via España is a good place for a mixture of high and low-end shops.

Is panama city a good place to vacation? ? my mom, dad, my brother (18), and me (13) want to go on a quick 4 day vacation before my brother and i have to start school again. we are planning to leave on new years day and stay until january 4th. we have to leave, i start school on the 6th :p. we want to go to either panama city florida, destin florida, or golf shores/ mobile alabama area? which one?

It depends on what you like to do. I live about 15 minutes from Destin.
The beaches are open, the weather has been in the 70's, most of the water parks are closed. Shopping and restaurants are great but I am not sure there will be a lot for you or your brother to do, this time of the year.

Q. Which is a better place to vacation destin or panama city beach? im a college student, i like to party but not all the time. im looking for the place with the best beach and lots of things to do (partyin/bars only counts as one thing to do in my book). i enjoy eating out at nice restaurants and at the local dives. let me kno : ) i would be goin during the summer.

Definitely Panama City Beach! Pier Park is full of restaurants, bars and shopping! For some cool local places, try out Harpoon Harry's or schooners.

Q. Has anyone ever been to panama city fl on vacation? what are good places to stay? i'm in college and even though it's not spring break time my friends and i still want to go down in august. is summer still fun/have a lot of young people in the summer? what are fun/inexpensive hotels?

Panama is fun anytime during the months of March thru August. There is still lots to do. If your on a super tight budget then I suggest staying off the beach because renting on the beach is more expensive. But if you do want an ocean view then there are several hotels that will rent to younger adults but MOST of the places in the area require you to be 21 or 25 years to rent. A few hotels I would check out where a lot of the younger crowd stays is Holiday Inn & Days Inn (both on the beach).
A traveling trick I have found to use is Pricelines name your Own Price. It gives you up to 50% off. So say the hotel is usually $100 you could say you want to pay $50 and it will either except it or deny your request... great for saving money. Just don't name anything lower then 50% off.

Miami in December can be real nice.
It probably won't be hot though. In fact, when it's cold in Miami, it's horrible! 60F feels like about 40F because of the humidity.
And no matter what time of year you're there, the traffic is horrendous!

One answerer said the people are friendly. Ha! HA!HA! well, friendly ain't the word for it; the people there are angry, aggressive, hostile. Bring your handgun.
Oh and make sure, no matter your babies skin tone, to put plenty of sunscreen on the little varmint 'cause sunburn will get get the tyke.

Cheap and good places at panama city or destin, fl? i am planing to take my family for vacations over destin or panama city in florida. we really have low budget for this trip and we will be even driving for around 12 hours. i want to know which one of this cities is less expensive to stay. i mean, hotels, food, gas...etc... also, could you tell me about names for hotels (cheap and good) or maybe where we can do camping???...what other attractions can i find in this places. i have a 4 year old, so i am trying to think about activities for her...thanks

I've only been to Destin once, but I've been to Panama City Beach many times. For inexpensive lodging, look for a place off the beach. Also a lot of places have much lower rates after Labor Day. It's a lot less crowded too. We like to rent from private owners. The first place I check for that is vrbo.
Renting a full condo rather than a hotel room can help save on food since you'll have a kitchen and can eat in. We like to eat out at lunch time since the meals are generally cheaper and then fix something light and simple like sandwiches for dinner. Buffets are a good deal for lunch especially with little kids. We like Golden Corral on 23rd St. in Panama City. Some of the Pizza Huts also have lunch buffets.
For things to do with kids, Frank Brown Park has a nice playground and also a public pool, there are lots of mini golf and go cart places, sandcastles & playing on the beach are fun. It's not super cheap but there is a Pirate Cruise. Something free and worth doing...the sharks and alligators at Alvin's Island can be viewed any time the store (the one that looks like a rock) is open. I was in Panama...there isn't really that much to do besides the Canal. We also took a trip to the San Blas Islands to see the Cuhna Indians. I would pick Hawaii.

Oh, I should also mention, I live in Fort Walton Beach, just between Destin and Pensacola. I don't like Pensacola, and Destin is ... well... Destins for the rich. And it's a tourist trap. I think you will enjoy Panama City/Panama City Beach much more. Just my advice from a local.

Q. Good place to go on a weekend getaway? i near panama city florida and me and my bf want to go on a weekend vacation but somewhere thats within like a 2 to 3 hour drive but somewhere that we have never been that we can have fun please help if you know of any towns worth visiting
St Augustine is a blast and just over 3 hours (Rt 10 East) depending on how fast you drive and traffic. Go see the stone lions and lighthouse.
