"Up when traveling but you will find panama is quite safe for latin america..."

You should always have your guard up when traveling but you will find Panama is quite safe for Latin America . With the canal here there will always be world wide need for a stable secure Panama to help ensure international trade. That is an x factor other Latin American ports of call can not claim. There are plenty of poor areas in Panama that are dangerous but they can be avoided as one would in any urban center globally. do your homework and pick up a travel guide like let`s travel before you go. These guides will tell you which trouble spots to avoid so you can be prepared as soon as you land.

Q. Is panama city safe for tourists?
i'm planning a trip in february and have heard that panama has a lot of crime. is this true? any recommendations for must-see, must-visit places while i'm there?

"Panama city is the safest city in central america..."

Panama City is the safest city in Central America. You can walk the streets late at night and not worry about being accosted. Just like any city in the world, there are parts you would want to stay away from. But, Panamanians are so friendly and courteous, if someone sees you walking into a risky area, they will warn you. That has happened to me a lot, because, in my quest to learn the city, I have walked all around it in the day time, at night and in the early hours. Never had a problem and I can't say that about other cities in Cen.America. As for the "must-see" places, first on the list is the Mira Flores locks of the Panama Canal. It will be about a six dollar taxi ride from most hotels out there and back. There is an admission fee to get into the museum and see the ten minute film in English that shows how the canal was built. If you just want to see ships passing through, then tell them you want the restaurant. You will get in free, but not to the film or the museum. Then take the elevator to the 2nd or 3rd floor. On the 2nd is a nice restaurant, with a veranda. You can sit there, eat and drink and watch the ships go by. On the roof floor it is open air and you can see from way up. It's great. I like to go at night, as there is more ship traffic then and you can dine outdoors on the veranda and watch the ships. Also worth seeing is Casco Antiguo, the original Panama City that was built in the 1500s and burned down by the English Pirate Henry Morgan. It is incredible how much of the ruins are still there. The Amador Causeway is cool. Get a taxi to go out there and see the view of the city's skyline. There are a lot of bars and restaurants out there. You can rent a bike and drive along the sidewalk. The Allbrook Mall is Panama's largest and growing. You will be amazed by all the people and the budget prices on things. KASC Viejo is the location where the city moved following the burning of the original city. It is heavy with clubs and restaurants too and some scenes from the latest James Bond movie were shot there.

"The best places to visit in panama are the beaches in colon which..."

The best places to visit in Panama are the beaches in Colon which is in Isla Grande, Portobelo,San Blas and Chiriqui which at this time of year are having their fair. Your expenses can be very economical if you do not go to any of the resorts because at this time of year can be very expensive. This is the peak time so be very careful!

Q. About a panama the country for my project help please?
where do most peple who visit panama come from? and is it safe totravel there why or why not?

"It's safe to travel to panama but also there (like everywhere else..."

I think most visitors of Panama come from the United States. Because of the US connections in the past (Panama Canal, Invasion) and the currency (Panama also has the US Dollar). But of course there are also European visitors, Asians, Latin Americans etc. It's safe to travel to Panama but also there (like everywhere else) you have neighborhoods that be better left alone. Hope this helps you

Q. Do native panamanians treat us citizens, blancos, gringos, well?
is panama safe to visit? or to live if you aren't a native citizen?

Of course!! We are very nice, warm and welcoming people. Just treat others as you would like to be treated. We are a big mix of chinese, caribbean, spanish, european, etc inmigrants that came to build the Canal and stayed for generations. An universal rule: there are good people and there are bad people everywhere. Have fun and don't miss our beaches!!!

Q. I'm looking to buy land in panama and wanted to know what to really look out for and what areas are safest?
i've been researching in buying property in panama for quite some time now and decided to go visit the country in spring-08. the cities i'm currently interested in are boca del toro santa clara/farallon, punta paitilla, casco viejo, and costa del este. i'm looking for either land or a penthouse condo both located close to shopping, restaurants, and contain amazing ocean views. the area must have a very low crime rate and have economic growth and stability. i do not want to spend more than $70k for land, $200k for apartment. i want to meet up with reputable real estate brokers that can help assist with the showing of properties and who can also assist with the real estate process from start to end. this broker must have strong relationships with lenders and lawyers. finally, i need to know if anyone has bought land/property recently who would like to share their experiences with me. thank you! i'm a young professional of 27 years old who is interested in areas within panama with younger demographic scenes roughly within the 20-35 year-old scenes.

Q. Which would be a better vacation spot costa rica or panama?
i'm thinking about going to central america but don't know which one to go to. which one has more poverty? which is safer? foods, beaches and places to visit would you recommend. which one is more similar to the caribbean islands? what do they have that makes them more unique?

"Panama is a little less developed in..."

Both are very similar but also very different. They share Rain Forests, great beaches on both sides, and the lowest rates of poverty in Central America. Panama is a little less developed in terms of Tourism but not in terms of industry etc. Both are extremely SAFE, great food and great friendly people. The currency in Panama is the Dollar so it is mostly more expensive than Costa Rica. Panama- Panama city is a nice very cosmopolitan city for Central America. There are several nice hotels here or ones just across the bay and you can take a ferry to those hotels across the bay. The Locks of the Panama Canal are also about a 45min drive or tour from the city. The Pacific side has several islands called the Peal Islands- Condado is the most popular and very nice with a couple nice hotels. The Caribbean side has two Island chains- both very different. The San Blas which are goverened by the Kuna Indians are very tropical, white sand beaches and great snorkeling reefs- no scuba diving allowed. These islands are VERY rustic.. The other ones are the Bocas Del Toro Archipelago towards the border with Costa Rica. These are also very nice islands and becomming the "next new place" to go to in Central America. It's very backpacker style still but there are some nice places popping up on some of the islands off of Bocas. Costa Rica is one of my favorite places too but unfortunately they do not have islands similar to Panama's and are more like Hawaiian/ California beaches than the Caribbeans. Tamarindo, Arenal, Monteverde, Dominical, Manuel Antonio are all places to visit when there. Have you thought about Roatan or another of the Bay Islands off Honduras since you are looking for Caribbean type? The beaches and water in the Bay Islands is very Caribbean per say, white sand and 200 foot visability. Not to mention, the second largest reef in the world behing the GBR. Continental and Delta also fly into Roatan on the weekend directly. Just a thought..
