The closer you get to the equator the more likely you are to burn, so a "tanning" lotion is not even recommended. Always use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30. Try to use one that`s eco-friendly, like Soleo Organics, Badger Sunscreen, and Mexitan Sunscreen. Sunscreen`s expensive in developing countries: get it before your trip.

You get burned just the same. If you tan easily, you can start with 8 minutes or so. I recommend that and using the standard tanning bed (I would stay away tfrom the "hex" and anything high powered... just ask the people there- they can help you) Go at most every other day- (max 3 times a week) Start with 8 minutes- if you get pink, go a time or two more with 8 and then add 2 minutes every time you think you can.. I am trying to work my tan up in a month and I tan easily, so I'm trying to build up quickly .. so you should add 2 minutes every other time (until you get pink in going longer one time- then plateu there until you get your base.) If it's too confusing, or you need more help, the employees at tanners are very helpful. If they aren't - you should go somewhere else- if they don't know what they are talking about- it's likely they don't do things like sanitize things correctly (and it's just plain bad service- why give them your money?) They might not know everything, you have to know how YOU tan. you WILL get pink or burn a little the first time or two you go- it's almost inevitable. But just know your body- how you tan- and if it can handle it!
