Mid-December is a great time to visit Panama; it`s just after the rainy season, so every clime -- from the dry tropical forests along the coasts, to the cloud forests of the Cordillera de Talamanca mountains -- are lush and full of life, while the air is breezy and cool. Relative humidity is lowest in March and April, and late March is always a good time to come. Best months depend somewhat on where you`re headed, but generally you can expect a balmy tropical climate split between two seasons, with air temperature rarely going over 90 F (32 C). April from December is considered the rainy season, which is felt considerably more on the Caribbean side of Panama. The country, however, rests outside the path of hurricanes, but will see the occasional thunderstorm during these months. The Pacific side of the country is usually cooler than the Caribbean, and Panama`s mountain ranges vary between 50 and 66 F, and can even get the occasional frost. If you`re headed to Panama City, average highs for February to July are in the low- to mid-80s and an average low of about 73 F (23 C).

The worst months in Panama are equivalent to the best months in Miami as a comparison. The great things is that even in the off months the temperature is still 85 every day pretty much. You will NEVER be cold in Panama.

You would do best to plan your cruise for sometime after November. September through November you are taking a bit of a chance on the weather. October and November are the rainy season for Panama. As someone who has been to all these places, I would recommend number 1. Start in the Argentinian Patagonia, hiking around Barriloche ( A ski town, filled with guides and friendly people used to catering to visitors). Then take the ferry that crosses the lakes into Chile. you will arrive in Chile in the zone they call Lagos del Sur (Southern Lakes). Very nice area. Hike around Saltos de Petrohue or the Osorno volcano. Another very nice place is Torres del Paine. In Peru, you have to make a choice if you are pressed for time. Either do the Inca Trail in Cuzco, or any of the very good Cordillera Blanca (White Mountain Range) treks in Ancash out of Huaraz. Ecuador has the Galapagos and some nice areas around Ambato.

Iloilo City is located on the Island of Pany (3rd largest) the big one directly south of world famous Boracay. The city is growing has 5 major new malls, good doctors and hospitals and very cheap compared to the states. Same for Dentists. New Airport 30 min outside the city. Many nice resorts and resturants here. Tourist visa's can be extended up to 18 months and it's fast and easy. Personally I recommend renting for at least 1 year before deciding where to live. Besides 6 month or month to minth leases are all but impossible to find. 1 year is the norm. 2 months as secuirity and first month rent is the norm for move in. $400 to $500 for a nice 3-4 br house with maids room. CATV and Internet availibe is most areas near the city. Definately check out the living in the philippines website. Has all the info you need and it's free. It's owner is an american living here for 40 plus years. It also has a link to a discussion group with expats like myself actually living here in the philippines that can help answer specifics in differant areas. Good luck with your search. After travelling the world for 23 years in the Navy I have seen a lot of places. A south pacific tropical island suits me just fine.
