Shanice | Q. Where can i get a feel for panama indigenous cultures near panama city?
"An hour away from panama city is the indigenous village of parara puru..."
An hour away from Panama City is the indigenous village of Parara Puru, where travelers can get guided tours and learn about Panama`s Embera Indians. Supporting the local culture is a great way to give back to such a wonderful country and the tours are a great day trip idea for kids, too. Embera Tours Panama offer small group day tours for about $120 per person, which includes pickup and drop-off at your hotel, park entrance fee, a canoe trip, an authentic Embera lunch and music and dance cultural presentation. Guide Garceth Cunampio is from an Embera tribe from the Darien province and speaks English, Spanish and the native Embera language. A tour guide and a naturalist, Garceth will point out mega fauna including anteaters and ocelots that you otherwise wouldn`t see in Panama. The Embera are extremely talented craftspeople and the tour also gives you an opportunity to meet some of the local artisans at an artist`s market. You can book a tour by emailing Garceth at gcunampio@yahoo.com, or by calling 507-6519-7121, or 507-250-1165 in the evening.

| | | Juan | Q. What part of panama city should i see after the panama canal?
"Another major point of attraction in panama city is old panama..."
After the Panama Canal, another major point of attraction in Panama City is Old Panama, which is also known as San Felipe, Catedral or simply Casco Viejo (the old town). Being the first Spanish city founded in the Americas, the town is steeped in colonial history and one can spend days wandering the Casco Viejo in a veritable architectural odyssey. The 800 or so buildings are filled with 16th century churches, palaces and plazas, but the town also exhibits an eclectic mix of Caribbean, art deco, and French styles. The ruins of Santo Domingo church and convent is arguably the most important attraction among the relics of Old Spain in Panama. Though the woodwork of Santo Domingo burned in a fire in 1756, the great arch of the church survived. Casco Viejo was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is undergoing a large-scale renovation. It is relatively well-maintained with a strong police presence, so you can walk around most streets safely. The nightlife in Casco Viejo is quite exciting; the city bustles with National Theater performances, nightclubs and unique bars, including authentic Cuban bar Vieja Havana, Moroccan-style Indigo, bohemian La Casona, and jazz/salsa bar Platea, just to name a few.

 Q. When is it off season in panama city, panama? i was wondering when it was a good time to travel there. also, are there any beaches in panama city, panama? or do you have to go to another city in panama for the beach? if so, how far is the beach by car? any transit/subways trains?
"The wet season is from april/may to middle end of december..."
We have two seasons here. The wet season is from April/May to middle end of December. The Dry season is from mid-December to when it starts raining again usually April/May.
Now, we are in the wet season and it rains almost every day. Not all day, an hour or so, but it is very cloudy and overcast during this time of the year. So people, like you, who want to go to the beach, usually come down in the Dry season. Rates are higher then and the city is more crowded, but it is more sunny. Also it rains more on the Caribbean side, especially in Bocas del Toro.
By car, to Isla Grande would be 90 minutes if you take the new expressway, the autopista.
To go to Gorgona Beach, or Vera Cruz will be about an hour.
No subways, no trains. Just buses.
.
There are no beaches in Panama City. There are some close by but they aren't the best. They would be Taboga Island (accessible by Ferry and it has a few hotels).
Vera Cruz is the next closest but it is really just a village on the other side of the canal and the beach isn't very nice.
To get to the nice ones, you need a car. Even if you take a bus to a Pacific Beach, the driver will let you off at the Pan American highway and you will have to walk a long way to get to the beach. Unless you are lucky to find a taxi.
Santa Clara is the best on the Pacific side and it is 90 minutes drive from the city.
On the Caribbean side, the beaches are the nicest, but you need a car. Isla Grande is one of the best in Panama. It is a small island with a beach on both sides and some small hostel type hotels. There are water taxis who will take you to the beach and bring you back.

 Q. Does the amount of rain in panama differ throughout the rainy season, especially near panama city? are certain months rainier than others? specifically, is october a high or low rain month (relative to the others)?
is there enough sun during october to get in some beach time each day, or is it cloudy and rainy all day?
October is the highest in rain (sorry). But, my friend, good news to you, in the Atlantic Area (Colón and its beautiful Caribbean beaches) there is a sort of small summer for a couple of weeks around that time of year. (We call it veranillo).
In the city, it rains almost everyday, around 2 in the afternoon. Why? Beats me.
Today‘s been sunny all day, no signs of rain, but in a couple of hours, who knows.
Edit:
The arco seco (roughly, dry arch) is an area where it doesnt rain very much. That is the area where the Decameron Hotel is at. You can have your share of sun there. (The beaches are: Playa Blanca, Juan Hombrón, Santa Clara, etc)

 Q. Christmas season in panama? i am doing a project on christmas celebrations on panama, i was wondering if you could help me out, tell me traditions of what you do, etc etc also if you have a good recipe for food, that would be good as well!
well, It is kind of similar to other countries. In general, we have the traditionally dinner with the turkey and the ham, but we also eat some Panamanian plates like "tamales", rice with chicken , "rosca"( which is a bread with almonds). The Bread is something that we only eat for these holidays, so make sure you add that to your project.
Also, we eat a cake with fruits. I don't like it, but must people do.
Another thing is that most of the people go to several parties. For example, I have the Christmas dinner with my family and then I go to my friend's dinner and then to my other friend's dinner and so on. You can imagine how much food do I eat, hahahaha
I hope that works for your project :P
please give me the 10 points :(

 Q. Has anyone been to panama city, panama in february? what are the bugs like? i've read on various sites that there are a lot of bugs in panama - i'm mainly worried about the "no-see-ums". any truth to this? any difference between the dry season and the wet season? we'd be staying at the playa bonita - any info is appreciated!
Listen to the warnings, they're all true! As long as you bring plenty of bug spray, you should be fine. here's a trick I learned when went 4 years ago. Instead of using bug spray, spray yourself with windex. I'm not kidding. It seems to work better against the whole range of critters you'll find in panama.

 Q. Are you upset as i am that aras won the $1 million prize on the "survivor:panama-exile island" season finale"? aras claimed that he was an honest person, but throughout the show he was proved by terry(the fighter pilot) that the santa monica-based yoga teacher was a conniving, sneaky, dirty, rotten jerk!...
YES!!! Terry should have won it as he really WAS THE ONLY SURVIVOR! He gave 110% and got the boot. He should have won.
